WILL MCCARTHY MUSIC PROMOTIONS – NEW RELEASE INFORMATION

Barney Morse-Brown & James Garrett

DUOTONE

“Ropes”

Release Date: 26 March 2012

LIVE dates 2012 to be announced – to include National Tour and high profile UK festivals!!!

It is rare these days to find a record that is un-categorizable – but, ROPES, the second album by DUOTONE is just that. A record that is restlessly inventive and one that sees, front man and main song writer, Barney Morse -Brown, take a new direction from that of DUOTONE’s first album, WORK HARDER – which was dedicated to the memory of his late wife. Whilst there is a similar vein running through the new record – it does, also, quite clearly take you to a new place – on a different journey – a big step on, indeed, on many different levels.

DUOTONE is the name under which Barney Morse-Brown (cellist for Imagined Village & Chris Woods, Handmade Life,) and James Garrett, (London based singer song writer and percussionist),write and perform their own contemporary acoustic songs. They loop guitars and cellos, percussion and voices to create ethereal sound-scapes for their poignant lyrics to weave in and out of.

Following some hugely successful festival appearances, at End Of The Road Festival, and London’s South Bank Centre in 2010, two name but two – DUOTONE have become a popular live booking through-outthe UK – mesmerising audiences all around the country with their very unique shows, breathlessly moving from, on the edge of threatening, riotous energy – all the way down, to the most delicate and heartfelt moments of beauty and intimacy. Barney and James possess a unique quality, that will one minute, have a crowdon their feet, punching the sky – seconds later – the audience will wait, held by the moment – waiting for a pin to drop.

With momentum building, Barney and James were invited to open for Imagined Village on their UK tour in Spring 2011 – playing some the UK’s top venues – winning new audiences every night – and selling substantial quantities of their debut album – and also their LIVE DVD – “Live At The Electric Palace”.

Coming from a musical family of seven children, Barney’s passion for performance was established early on, studying at The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, he was awarded a scholarship to study Baroque cello at The Royal College Of Music. The cello has, to date, played a pivotal role in Barney’s life – starting at the age of six – progressing through school and college – to building a career that has already seen him performing and recording with some of the great artists of our time – as already mentioned, Chris Wood and Imagined Village – as well as Eliza Carthy and many others. It is this environment that Barney has immersed himself in that has helped him to create a sound that challenges convention, - whilst demonstrating the versatility of the cello by making it the lead instrument in the band – and ..........it works!!

Raised in Dorset, James began learning classical guitar as a young child – it was not long before he found himself flourishing in a lively, and thriving Rock scene in and around Bridport. Garrett too, worked hard at the guitar, moving beyond the confines recognised for an instrument – always looking to achieve and invent new sounds – he carried this approach forwards when he took up percussion – playing the cajon (a hand crafted wooden box – originating fromLatin America). With his unique percussion set up – James provides the heartbeat of Duotones sound.

Duotone will be touring the UK in 2012 and their second album, ROPES – will be released on ECC records, via Proper Music Distribution.
